Roadmap

A simple plan for building Foodies, one tasty step at a time.

  1. Phase 1 · Foundation

    Public starting point

Set up Foodies, the homepage, the shared footer, and this visible roadmap.

  2. Phase 2 · Recipe discovery · Complete

    Discover great food

Browse countries and categories from the recipe catalogue. Every country and available category pairing has its own top-six page, including Italian desserts.

    • In progress: replace the flat atlas renderer with a real WebGL globe—textured sphere, raised country surfaces, raised borders, and raycast hover/click selection—then compare it with the approved Italy reference.
    • Complete: remove the development-only footer notes and disable Symfony’s web debug toolbar so the world-page renderer runs without the overlay.
    • In progress: render the bundled world geometry directly on the rotating canvas, with no screenshot fallback or remote atlas request; verify this genuine globe against the approved visual contract.
    • In progress: treat the approved textured Italy globe reference as the visual contract for the world page; restore a Safari-safe visible globe before further fidelity work.
    • Recipe cards, country pages, category pages, daily Plat du Jour, and recipe details are live.
    • The recipe catalogue, places, and categories are stored in MariaDB.
  3. Phase 3 · Voting · In progress

    Rank your favourites

People can order recipes and save a development ballot by email address. Before public launch, this will return to a one-confirmed-ballot-per-person flow.

    • In progress: add an environment-gated confirmation path. Development continues to save test ballots immediately; production will require a working outbound sender before ballots count.
    • Development ballots, reminder subscriptions, and optional evidence comments are live.
    • Community activity is persisted in MariaDB.
  4. Phase 4 · World discovery & tournaments · In progress

    Cook for your place

The interactive gastronomy globe, country detail panel, and continent navigation are live for the growing recipe collection. Country-versus-country fixtures, voting, comments, and an admin workspace are also live; the next step is turning individual fixtures into full tournaments.

    • Complete: the home page is now a stable, textured, rotatable 3D world with real country outlines, active-country highlighting, continent selection, and an accessible rotation cue.
    • Complete: the approved clear discovery layout now has a compact short-screen treatment, a continuation row, and a shared light/dark mode that honours the operating-system setting by default.
    • Complete: France and Italy have editorial recipe imagery, dish-specific ingredients and method notes, browsable country categories, and a catalogue-wide category view.
    • Complete: the France–Italy dessert fixture is a reusable public competition template with ranked development ballots, discussion, reminders, and an admin workspace.
    • Complete: shared keyboard navigation now includes a shortcut past the header, and the interface respects reduced-motion preferences alongside the globe.
    • Next: reconnect outbound email and restore confirmation before public ballots count.
    • Next: expand Europe country by country, pairing each map selection with researched recipes before wider globe coverage.
    • In progress: publish a reusable kitchen atlas with concise country and regional guides, so the globe and catalogue can grow without pretending every place already has a recipe collection.
    • Complete: the first European mains tournament now has a visible development bracket—France, Italy, Germany, and Turkey through semi-finals and a final—with every result shown for testing.
    • In progress: publish dedicated Germany and Turkey recipe collections, then connect those dishes to the Europe tournament.
    • In progress: make development tournaments reusable from the admin workspace, with four entrants, visible scores, rounds, and champion.
    • In progress: check the competition and origin pages at compact viewport sizes so their controls and bracket remain usable without excess scrolling.
    • In progress: make one timed fixture the clear current competition, then surface relevant tournament and origin-debate links from the homepage, country pages, recipe pages, and atlas guides.
  5. Phase 5 · Origins & community

    Settle the delicious debates

Host origin competitions—such as “Moules-frites: France or Belgium?”—with community voting and an evidence-led discussion area.

    • Complete: origin debates are now separate from recipe tournaments, beginning with an evidence-led development debate about Ashkenazi latkes and Alsatian grumbeerekiechle; proofs are reviewed before people can vote on their strength.
    • Complete: origin debates now include side-by-side cooking notes, so people can compare related dishes while keeping recipe comparison separate from evidence voting.
    • In progress: give moderators an approval or rejection workflow for pending community sources before a claim can receive evidence votes.
    • Keep community-submitted proof separate from historically verified sources.
    • Build completed-event archives and improve Foodies from member feedback.
